FOLLOWING up from the rock n’ roll shenanigans of their last release It’s Blitz, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have unveiled a new track from their forthcoming album Mosquito called Sacrilege.
It’s a bit of a building gospel-style number which has already welded itself onto our brains.
It starts off very chilled, with lead singer Karen O’s inimitable vocals intoning over a lo-fi, fuzzed-out backdrop then it slowly builds to a choir-infused hands in the air number (with Kazza wailing “and I plead, and I pray”.)
Basically if Whoopi Goldberg ever wanted to make another Sister Act where they went all cool and edgy and electro – this song could be the closer.
Their new album is set to feature LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy and rapper Kool Keith in his Dr. Octagon guise.
The band – Karen O, Nick Zimmer, Brian Chase – has said that Mosquito “has more moodier and tripped-out songs than you’ve ever heard from us. You might catch some roots reggae and minimalist psychedelia influences in there.”
Listen to Sacrilege, below.
Mosquito is out on 15 April.
