Review: Interior Design Class at the Saatchi Gallery

TO pick up a few handy hints and tips Pillow Magazine sent one of our team to check out an Interior Design Class held at the Saatchi Gallery and report back to our readers.

Just in time for the next group held on October 6th, Donna gives the low down on her experience of September’s session.

By DONNA CREEK

The class was held in the education room at the Saatchi Gallery and there was an intimate group of six of us in total, probably because it was scorching outside.

Prior to the class we were asked to bring along a printed picture of a room we’d like to redesign, magazine cuttings, fabric swatches and foam board to create a moodboard.

Karen, who organises the sessions, was very lovely and made us all feel very welcome. She introduced herself and spoke about her background and then in turn we all introduced ourselves, background and what we wanted to achieve from the class.

She covered the following topics – and we discussed these slides as a class as Karen went through them.

How to decorate without major costs!

Re-organising your current home/room

How can you produce a home that reflects your personality?

How to use the correct lighting in your home

The colourwheel

The best places to shop

Half way through the class we all sat and created our moodboards – Karen then made her way round the class and spoke to us individually.

I had chosen to redesign my living room so I had take along a picture for Karen to reference with my moodboard.

She took time to speak through our boards and gave some useful advice on what else we could add to it.

The topics covered were very useful and it really opened my mind to new ideas on how to update your home without spending a lot of cash.

I’d recommend the session for interiors novices who want some inspiration on how to spruce up their home, as it covers the basics really well.

However, if like me you have a little more experience in home decoration and interior design, then it may not be as advanced as you desire.
