IF you can’t resist a last-minute spontaneous holiday – and fancy a cocktail in one hand and book in the other by the pool, firstly, we know how you feel – and we have got a few unmissable suggestions for you.
Instead of hitting the obvious Greece/Spain destinations, why not look further afield, somewhere hot, gorgeous and a bit quieter and less touristy.
Take Slovenia for example, not the first holiday hotspot that springs to mind, but Ljubljana is a cool and quirky capital city with lots of fun bars, and you are only an hour’s drive away from some of Europe’s most breathtaking natural scenery.
The Vander Hotel in Ljubljana offers luxury and contemporary style. It’s nestled on the banks of the river Ljubljanica amidst the old town, definitely a holiday break in style! It’s not only is a gorgeously-designed hotel, The Vander offers a bespoke service, yoga classes and has a stunning restaurant on the ground floor. At around €90 a night per person (based on two sharing), it won’t break the bank.
Plus they have a stunning pool on the rooftop – the only hotel in the capital to boast such a feature.
For something more familiar but still a departure from the bum-bags and constant camera flicking, Puerto De La Cruz, Tenerife, is the best of both worlds, whilst being gorgeously Spanish and definitely un-touristy, this part of Tenerife is to-die-for (and I’m talking from experience having holidayed here last year!).
Hotel Botanico & The Oriental Spa Garden is situated behind the city’s peaceful Botanical Gardens, an idyllic backdrop to any holiday, as part of the Canary Islands Luxury Hotel’s group, it also offers sophistication and elegance.
If you’ve always thought about Malta, but not quite got round to looking at hotels, look no further!
Offering undisturbed views built on Gozo’s highest point, Ta’Cenc – a hideaway resort – has everything a spa holiday needs; individual bungalows for some peace and quite, a holistic wellness spa, pools and eateries.
Fancy going to The City of Spas? – We definitely do! Hungary’s Budapest is known for it’s natural bath’s and springs, not to mention it’s parks, buildings and culture, definitely a break away to somewhere beautiful!
If something a bit more upmarket is what you want to treat yourself with, Hotel Corvinus offers luxury at a range of prices – starting at affordable, ending at extravagant (it’s so worth it) – it has its own spa, and depending on what room you opt for, a pillow menu! (It was meant to be).
From Slovenia and Hungary, the relatively left-behind holiday destinations of the world, to the more familiar of Tenerife and Malta, there’s something for everyone, for every need, want and necessity we all look for in a holiday.
Trying somewhere different to holiday never looked so good!
