IMAGINE the most amazing fictional suburban power couple EVER played by David Bowie and Tilda Swinton and you have some clue of what is contained in the clip for Bowie’s new single The Stars (Are Out Tonight).
Then throw in gender-bending supermodel Andrej Pejic and cropped-hair (and strong-jawed) beauty Saskia De Brauw as high profile celebs who begin to control their lives into the mix and the concoction becomes even more mystical and potent.
The video satirises celebrity and fuses the ideas of androgyny, suburbia, happiness and fame into 5.54 seconds of excellence.
We’d try to explain exactly what was going on, but to be honest we still have no idea. All we know is Tilda Swinton rocks a very cool blonde wig at the beginning and look the epitome of small town chic (“we have a very nice life” she says binning a celeb mag), but by the end she is stripped back to her edgy short locks at the end, dressed in mirror to Bowie – with Andrej rocking her original curls.
Watch the video, which was directed by Floria Sigismondi and shot by Jeff Cronenweth, for yourself, below.
