MY niece had recently reached the age where she has discovered the joys of beauty, and it’s taken me back to the days when I first discovered the magic of make-up. I think I was probably quite young when I started becoming interested in make-up, I clearly recall ‘borrowing’ my sister’s collection of lipsticks and various bits and being especially enamoured with a gold and a silver lipstick that she had, thinking they were the best thing I’d ever seen. From memory, I reckon I was about 10 when I started digging through that biscuit tin of beauty goodies on the regular. A few years later (and remember this was before the internet was even INVENTED), I started buying up Boots big-style whenever I could, raiding the aisles for 17 and The Natural Collection. I remember the first palette I was ever gifted – again by my sister with a brick-coloured lip liner inside and I was hooked. I spent evenings experimenting with liquid eyeliner, and bright eyeshadows, often doing a different look on each side of my face, just to perfect the ultimate smokey eye. So, now I feel it’s my duty to pass on the knowledge that I learned over the years to my niece and make sure that she uses some good brands to start her off on her beauty journey. From lip balms from brands such as Fresh (which contains a sugar scrub for soft lips) and a peachy balm from MAC, Barry M’s Let It Roll mascara which paints on lashes in the most natural manner to fun rose gold lip kits from High Street brand Barry M – teen beauty should be fun but not overpowering in my opinion. Start off with a BB cream as teen skin often doesn’t really need much covering up.. choose a light shade to avoid any orange marks around the chin! Most importantly, have fun. I have such fond memories of experimenting with make-up and a life-long passion was born which has influenced both my These are my picks for a teenage beauty starter kit, L-R.
