Iggy Azalea signs to Mercury Records

FEMALE rapper Iggy Azalea, one of the hottest new players on the hip-hop scene, has signed a deal with Mercury Records after making herself known to the industry, the public, and some hip-hop heavyweights last year.

The Australian sensation’s first mix-tape Ignorant Art was released in 2011 and immediately put her in the spotlight. It was followed by “Glory”, a six-track EP featuring a track she recorded with Mike Posner, BOB and Pusha T.

Iggy also featured on Steve Aoki’s hit single Beat Down in May last year. Her crisp, energetic style was well established by the time her third mix-tape, “Trap Gold”, was released at the end of 2012.

Her first official UK single, Work, will be released on 1st April; it offers a taster of her highly anticipated debut album The New Classic, produced by FKi and due to be released this Spring. The moody beats and hard-hitting statements of Work demonstrate her undeniable force and attitude.

Iggy will be supporting rap legend Nas on the European leg of his tour this Spring, which includes two dates in the UK: the O2 Arena in London on 19th March; and Birmingham’s HMV Institute on 20th March.
