Pillow’s autumn/winter 2012 trends update

By REBECCA CHRISTOU

Autumn is either your favourite time of year, or your worst nightmare. Rain in muggy weather means feeling hot, but needing to protect yourself from the downpour. The low sun and gusty wind means sunglasses and scarves.

It may not be the easiest of taks, but the brains behind the catwalks are doing their utmost to keep us looking stylish amidst the falling leaves…

HEELED TRAINERS

Hot on the heels of Isabel Marant’s stacked sneakers, Adidas, Nike and Ash are some of the hottest labels to be wearing wedged this season.

Substitute your summer footwear for failsafe leathers and suedes, which will keep your feet warm and dry whilst keeping your legs looking long with inches of hidden heel. Nike’s Dunk Sky Highs even come in a gorgeous Liberty print, keeping you right on trend.

TOP KNOTS AND BUNS

Top knots and buns were hot this summer, and incredibly useful when on the beach/by the pool/on the Tube. Utilise the look for autumn too to keep hair from tangling in statement scarves, collars and necklaces – it’s still the height of relaxed chic, being sported and spotted on A/W runways.

BLUE EYE MAKE-UP

You probably remember being a pre-teen, buying magazines that came with a free blue eyeshadow or mascara. Blue petered out of favour a while back, but it’s back with force and tipped to be a big autumn trend. Guerlain, Anna Sui and Stella McCartney are all footing the frenzy, using electric eel blue eyeliners and smoky denim shades on their models.

BURGUNDY

Burgundy is this autumn’s black – fashion shows have been full to bursting with vampy berry and bruise shades. Alexander Wang showcased lacquered oxblood macs, Rag & Bone used burgundy to add depth to layering and Diane von Furstenberg’s glossy raspberry raincoats have featured in every style magazine worth its salt.

FOREST GREEN

Moving away from the catwalks – we can’t go anywhere on the High Street without being confronted with a sea of forest green. From sexy Mad Men-style blouses to woollen winter coats, this gorgeous shade translates across most separates.
