The Design Museum is inviting visitors to experience the world of fashion designer Paul Smith this winter.
Hello My Name is Paul Smith will run from November 15 2013 to March 9 2014. As well as looking to the future the exhibition will celebrate the designer’s career to date, exploring his influences and designs and charting his brand’s rise to fame.
From its humble beginnings in a Paris hotel suite in 1976, the company now exhibits seasonally in London and Paris and has fourteen different collections, maintaining its emphasis on the personal touch.

Drawing on the designer’s personal archive, the exhibition will explore how Paul Smith’s intuitive take on design and his understanding of the roles of designer and retailer have contributed to the company’s international success.
The exhibition will showcase and celebrate the brand through collections chosen by Paul Smith himself. Stages of design and production will be explored, demonstrating the brand’s belief in traditional tailoring and craftsmanship.
A recreation of Paul Smith’s first shop in Byard Lane, Nottingham, measuring just 3m x 3m, will stand alongside a digital display of film and photographs. An audio voiceover narrated by the designer himself will accompany the images.
