CELEBRATING its 25th anniversary, Katsuhiro Otomo’s groundbreaking anime Akira is set for a theatrical re-release from July 13th at selected cinemas across the UK.
Touted as being one of the greatest and most influential anime films of all time, Akira’s depiction of its dystopian Neo Tokyo has been a huge inspiration for countless sci-fi movies and almost singlehandedly opened up the market for the UK’s mainstream acceptance of Japanese animation during the 90’s.
As well receiving praise from many critics as being one of the best anime movies of all time, it continues to be a major source of inspiration for all kinds of films including genre defining classics such as The Matrix (released back in 1999), right up to recent releases such as last year’s Chronicle.
Featuring a stunning future metropolis, biker gangs, mutating teens, government conspiracies and paranormal beings with psychic powers – this cyberpunk classic simply demands to be viewed on the big screen.
Don’t miss the opportunity to catch this landmark anime at a cinema near you. Details of screening locations to be revealed soon.
